About the print & artist....

New Orleans native son, Tuna Seither, is recognized as one of the nation's foremost sports artists. Included in Tuna's works are commissions for limited edition silk screens of the Sugar Bowl, the New Orleans Golf Classic, the Grand Island Tarpon rodeo and the Super Bowl. He has also been asked to paint personal portraits for many sports personalities including Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Brett Favre, Dan Marino and Mike Singletary. Tuna, of course, also created a memorable series of posters for the Crescent City Classic featuring the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Degas House, Cafe du Monde and the Saenger Theater. This year's poster is Tuna’s fifth work for the Classic.

Tuna’s inspiration for the commemorative serigraph print was an antique map of the Crescent City, with its much smaller footprint, and the undeveloped area around it. The river and lake surrounding the city, completed the picture of a city poised to expand to these natural limits to accommodate the diverse occupants of the city.

In Tuna's 2008 depiction, a current view of New Orleans is shown incorporating an overview of the expanded City. Tuna’s attention to detail conjures up images of life on race day with illustrations of the city's landmarks, race entrants, river activity and the CCC “running man.” The highlighted race course traveled by the Crescent City Classic shows the race's impact on the many areas that the race touches in the city on race day.

The special serigraph commemorating the 30th annual Crescent City Classic is finished off with a complete list of the male and female winners of all of the previous Crescent City Classic's at the bottom.
