For the first time ever, the 35th Anniversary of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic will feature a fabulous lineup of Health & Fitness Stage Performances and Speakers at this year's Expo, which is to take place on Thursday, March 28th and Friday, March 29th from 10am - 8pm.  See the full schedule of events, put together by Crescent City Physical Therapist, Gini Davis, below & make sure to stop by for one or more of these wonderful presentations!

Thursday, March 28, 2013:

10:00 – 10:45 am:  Pole Perfect Fitness 
Demo and participation in a non-traditional “sport” to improve strength and endurance to 
improve overall level of fitness!  The ultimate workout for the modern day women, all 
while having alot of fun!


11:00- 11:45 am: Yoga for Runners with Luke Hooper of Reyn Studios.


Whether new to Yoga, or have been around the Yogi block, this is a class engineered for 
the runner in ALL of us!  Whether Elite, Amateur, Clydesdale or Athena, this 
INTERACTIVE DEMO led by a lifelong runner and triathlete, will focus on strength AND 
FLEXIBILITY where you need it MOST:  hips, hamstrings, calves and core.  Learn how to 
keep those nagging injuries away and PREVENT new ones – all while building the strength 
and flexibility to get that next PR!
12:00- 12:45 pm: Feeding Your Future – A realistic approach to improving your health 
with Julie.
Julie Fortenberry, Registered Dietitian and Nutritionionist of The Natural Weigh and 
Chef Mae Leonard team up again to bring you nutrition tips and a COOKING DEMO geared 
toward improving YOUR health.  Learn simple steps to take you from the CCC10k Finish 
Line to Every Day therafter.
1:00- 1:45 pm: Crescent City Crossfit– Anne Talhelm of this unique and VARIED CrossFit 
Functional Training program will provide an INTERACTIVE DEMO of her FITNESS TRAINING 
PROGRAM to help you reach your fitness goals. 
2:00- 2:45 pm: BOSU with Erin Romney of Romney Pilates.
This INTERACTIVE DEMO with the BOSU balance trainer will challenge balance, coordination, 
strength and endurance.  This class will begin similar to traditional step class using BOSU 
as the step.  The class features interval trianing, weight training, plyometric work, balance 
and cardio training.  Wear of soft soled shoes or barefoot is the goal with this prop that 
allows the feet to “grip” around the BOSU thus strengthening muscles of the feet and ankles.
3:00- 3:45 pm: Bart Yasso – Chief Running Officer – Runner’s World.
Bart Yasso's Training Tips and Practical Advice will entertain AND provide you with 
valuable information for your training program.  Bart is a veteran runner of more than 
1,200 races around the world and has entertained and informed runners, walkers and exercisers 
throughout the world.  You will not want to miss a meeting with Bart – bring YOUR questions!


4:00- 4:45 pm: NOLA Hooping with Kimberly Hutchinson Lobert 
NOLA Hooping offers participants of ALL ages the opportunity to build flexibility, strength 
and endurance with the REALLY FUN activity of “yesteryear” called Hula Hooping!  Who knew, 
but YOU will, when you participate and/or watch this INTERACTIVE DEMO “live” at the EXPO.  
Kimberly’s Fitness Programs offer something different for everyone! 
5:00 – 5:45 pm: LOCAL RUNNING GROUPS  - Training with NOLA Locals! 
NO Track Club, LA Running Company, Southern Runner, Varsity Sports and Others will be 
present to let you know WHAT, WHERE, and HOW but ALWAYS for FUN & SPORT!  
Do you want to start a walking and/or running program and don’t know where to begin, or 
are you a neighborhood jogger who wants to move to the NEXT level, OR have you reached your 
immediate PR and want to move to the next level?  Someone in this group of experienced 
exercisers is probably leading a group in YOUR neighborhood and can help you meet your exercise 
goals.  AND, do you want to meet others in NOLA who are interested in Health and Fitness?  
You WILL meet friendly, outgoing, helpful neighbors in these groups that are new to exercise 
and/or are trying to extend their running mileage and/or decrease their time, but above all, 
they want to help YOU!

Yasso's Training Tips and Practical Advice for EVERYONE!!  DO NOT miss is entertainment 
– Bart has entertained audiences far and wide regarding his experiences in running.  
Bart will spark you enthusiasm and leave you WANTING to run another mile or two tomorrow!

Leaving from Lobby of Hyatt Hotel – ALL runners invited!
10:00 – 10:45 am:  Yoga with Lululmemon Athletica – Demo and Participation – ALL invited!
Join Lululemon Athletica Ambassador, Lauren Darnell, for this fun, fiery practice!  Get 
in your downward dogs and sun salutations, and give yourself some TLC before the race 
with this all-levels class.  Bring a mat, or borrow one of ours.  Lululemon Athletica seeks 
to elevate the world to greatness from a place of mediocrity by creating comnponents to 
help people live longer, healthier, more fun lives.

Questions and Answers
Medical Panel Bios:

Dr. Karen DeSalvowas named by Mayor Mitch Landrieu as the New Orleans Health Commissioner in December 2010 and since she began working for the city on January 18, 2011 she has been on leave from Tulane University School of Medicine where she was a professor of medicine and held the C. Thorpe Ray Endowed Chair in Internal Medicine.  She had served as a vice dean for Community Affairs and Health Policy at Tulane and had the responsibility for implementing the medical school’s mission to build healthier communities.  Dr. DeSalvo graduated from Suffolk University in Boston and later from Tulane University Health Sciences Center with her Medical Doctorate and Masters of Public Health.  She remained at Tulane as a resident in Internal Medicine.

Dr. DeSalvo is an avid runner and exerciser known around City Hall never to take an elevator.  Karen has been responsible for a number of City initiatives related to the promotion of fitness and wellness, particularly to curb childhood obesity.


Dr. Christine Keatingis a graduate of LSU Shreveport School of Medicine and completed her residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at LSU New Orleans School of Medicine with a sub-specialty in Sports Medicine.  Christine is an accomplished runner and Ironman Triathlete having completed 13 marathons, including 3 Boston Marathons, since 2002 and 3 Ironman triathlons!  Dr. Keating trained for her first marathon alone after she bought a book and began running!  She has come a long way!  Dr. Keating treats many, many active people and those who are trying to become active, in her busy practice at Ochsner Clinic.


Dr. Douglas Lurieis an Orthopaedic surgeon practicing with Orthopaedic Associates of New Orleans.  He graduated from Birmingham Southern College and the University Of South Alabama School Of Medicine.  He then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery internship and residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans where he was Chief Resident.  Dr. Lurie is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery with a sub-specialty certification in Sports Medicine. In practice Dr. Lurie specializes in the treatment of sports injuries of the active adult performing arthroscopic surgery about the knee, hip and shoulder as well as total joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee.  Dr. Lurie is an active runner and regularly works out to keep himself fit and with first hand knowledge in the medical problems he helps his patients overcome on a daily basis.


Molly Kimball, RD, CSSDis a well-known and respected nutrition expert specializing in what she refers to as “lifestyle” nutrition:  teaching people how to integrate real-world nutrition changes into their daily lives and to incorporate their favorite indulgences into balanced, healthy diets.  Molly is an established nutrition consultant, registered dietitian and board certified as a specialist in sports dietetics.  She is also known by many through her regular column in The Times Picayune and other local and national publications.  Molly graduated from LSU with two degrees:  Dietetics and Food Science and Technology and she completed her dietetic internship at Touro Infirmary.  As the Nutrition Program Manager at Ochsner’s Elmwood Fitness Center, Molly works with clients, consults and lectures to a wide range of audiences.  Molly is also an avid runner and exercises regularly – all the better to identify with her wide public audience.


Virginia “Gini” Davis, PT, MAgraduated from UCLA, the US Army School of Physical Therapy and received a Masters Degree in Health Science and Exercise Physiology.  Gini established Crescent City Physical Therapy 30 years ago after working for 3 years as a member of the faculty of the LSU School of Physical Therapy.  Gini helped the LSU Department of Orthopaedic Surgery establish this area’s first Runners’ Clinic in the late 1970’s and that first clinic help to propel her running activities to a new level that included marathoning and now ½ marathon distances and to promote her interest and specialization in lower extremity, ankle and foot problems and rehabilitation and the establishment of her Foot and Ankle Rehabilitation Resource Center within her PT practice.  Her most recent venture Perfect Fit Shoes on Magazine Street New Orleans is where she sells shoes that are both stylish AND comfortable for women and men.  Gini has volunteered for the Crescent City Classic almost since it began – she began teaching running clinics in Audubon Park and later at area hospitals and she has written the Official CCC 10k Training Program for most of those years.  Gini writes for area and national publications and has lectured nationally.



3:15- 4:00 pm: Fit Gourmet Cooking DEMO with Molly Kimball, Ochsner Dietitian, 
and Chef Dione Duhon of the Fit Gourmet of New Orleans!  
Learn how easily you can eat nutritiously without cutting out all of your favorite 
New Orleans food.
4:15 - 5:00 pm:  Bart Yasso - Chief Running Officer, Runners World .
Lessons, Wisdom, Insights learned from running in more than 1,200 races near 
and far.  Bart’s Tips and Practical Advice will help YOU become a more 
enthusiastic, better runner!
5:00- 6:00 pm: Elite Runner Presentation followed by Q & A with Andrew Lilly 
and Arturo Barrios, our 1986 CCC10k Winner!
There will be happy just to finish this 10k, but there is a group of runners 
who want to WIN the 35th Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic!!  Andrew 
and Arturo will introduce these RACERS to you – yes, we will ALL be running 
this CHAMPIONSHIP RACE, but these women and men will lead us all to the finish 
line!  Come out to meet them and hear how they train to be the BEST in the WORLD!
6:00 – 8:00 pm:  ZULU CELEBRATION!
